I was born in 1943, married, two children (one Jason Donnan my son, no children yet with his name; the other Kimarie Card, has eight children at present).

I am the son of Dwight Andrew Donnan, son of William Varis Donnan, son of William Quigley Donnan, son of Andrew Donnan (jr.), son of Andrew Donnan (sr.), son of William Donnan a farmer in Broughton Mains, Gallowayshire, Scotland. More, at this time, we don't know.

Editors Note: The following was sent to us by Geoffrey Donnan,
We'll probably use it later on the genealogy page which we paln to create in the future.

The Donnan Coat of Arms illustrated left was drawn by an heraldic artist
from information officially recorded in ancient heraldic archives. Documentation for the Donnan Coat of Arms design can be found in Rietstao Armorial General. Heraldic artists of old developed their own unique language to describe an individual Coat of Arms. In their language, the Arms (shield) is as follows: "D'arg. a un chene err. de sin.; au chef d'azur, ch. de trots etoiles d'or." When translated the Arms description is: "Silver; a green oak tree uprooted; a blue upper third charged with three gold stars."
Family mottos are believed to have originated as battle cries in medieval times. A Motto was not recorded with the Donnan Coat of Arms.

Individual surnames originated for the purpose of more specific identification. The four primary sources for second names were: occupation, location, father's name and personal characteristics. The surname Donnan appears to be characteristic in origin, and is believed to be associated with the French and Irish, meaning "one who had a dark complexion." The supplementary sheet included with this report is designed to give you more information to further your understanding of the origin of names. Different spellings of the same original surname are a common occurrence. Dictionaries of surnames indicate probable spelling variations. The most prominent variations of Donnan are Don, Donn, Donne and Donan.
